The Southeast Asian city of Bangkok is said to have a tropical climate. The Thais divide the year into three seasons which they call a cool season, hot season, and rainy season. Temperatures in the city rarely drop below 25° C (70° F). The months of October until February are considered to be favorable for tourists.

The cool season runs from December to March, although there’s usually just one week in December when temperatures are actually comfortable. Temperatures dip down to a few centigrade in these months and normal life is affected only a slightly.

The heat begins to increase soon after the New Year and by April or May, it can be almost unbearably hot and humid. One of Thailand’s most celebrated festivals – Songkran, takes place in April and involves lots of water throwing to cool down. Temperatures are at the peak during the months of April and May, and it is very hot and sticky due to the increased sea winds. Later months of the year face a gradual fall in temperature.

The rainy season, which coincides with the European and North American summers, is characterized by heavy downpours and not so favorable for tourists. During the rainy season, there are extremely heavy downpours, but they generally only last for an hour or so in the afternoon. The city annually records a maximum of 340 mm a year. Months of May and June to October experience very heavy rains. The rain cools down the high temperatures and cleans the air nicely that may be unique real relaxing relaxing after heating. With the temperatures touching the peak, the rain is not cold. Most of the times, it can be just like a warm shower.

June to September experiences plenty of sunshine and is much cooler with the temperatures ranging around 24-28° C, but is the season for rain and is really refreshing. This has a lot of advantages like less visitors and better hotel rates. Best time to visit is from October until February when temperature ranges around 25- 28° C with light breezes and only the occasional showers.

Bangkok’s culture dates back to many centuries that it is said that archeological excavations in the area north of Nakorn Ratchasima indicate that there were people living here over 4000 years ago.

The Bangkokians are a bunch of warm and friendly people, usually too polite to show offense. Yet, as with any nation, there are borders of behavior that should and should not be crossed. They take great pride in their monarchy. Visitors are well-advised to respect the reverence in which devoted Bangkokians hold their royal family. The Buddhist religion is considered sacred by Bangkokians. Monks, temples, and Buddha images are everywhere and most of the people treat them with great respect. It is expected that appropriate clothing be worn in temples, and shoes removed when entering certain areas in the temples.

For Bangkokians, the maintenance of surface calm and harmony is crucial. Loss of temper, arguing, or direct criticism are best avoided among them, because they feel it serves little purpose in any case. The famous wai is a used as a gesture for both greeting and respect. Wai requires the person to use both of his hands as if praying in front of his face. In general, it is considered to be a mark of respect to try to keep the head at a lower level than that of a senior or older person when talking to or passing them. On entering a private chamber or house, it is customary to remove your shoes. The polite form of address when talking to or about people of similar or older age are to use the title “Khun” and the person’s first name.

Many Bangkokians will be too polite to comment on behaviour that is disrespectful of a fellow Bangkokian, but you should be aware that it is still offensive. Looks and appearances are important to Bangkokians. When meeting them, dressing smartly, or at least appropriately, reflects the degree of respect you hold for them.

Bangkok is the largest province in Thailand. It is considered as one of the largest cities in the world. It lies about two meters above the sea level rise, which causes problems for the protection of the city against flood during rainy season. Often after the tremendous pouring of rain, water in canals and the river overflow the banks, resulting a massive flood. The flooding threat to Bangkok comes from three factors, especially during the monsoonal season. Heavy rains could combine with high tides and runoff from the north into the Chao Phraya River, which divides the city known to the locals as Krung Thep or the ‘City of Angels’ in reference to the Thai kingdom’s glorious past.

Bangkok has a climate determined by three seasons. The seasons are clearly defined. It is winter from November to January, between February to April weather is mostly dry because of summer season and from May to October it is dominated by the southwest monsoon, in which during this time you can experience heavy rains.

During the summer season Bangkok is hot. The average temperatures is around 34º C, however it can often reach 40º C with the humidity levels of 75% which can make unbearable to stay outside. That’s why during this period of time you can rarely see Thai people roaming around on the streets not unlike in any other Asian country. Most especially the month of April because this is the hottest month across the country and it can be almost unbearably hot and humid. However, with this really hot climate- the wonder and strange thing about Bangkok is that your complexion never get tan even you lay under the sun or if it get’s tan it will take a little time and patience. But it is advisable to always bring water with you during summer in Bangkok because once you are under the sun it seem like you are under the largest sauna & you’ll easily get exhausted of heat.

During the rainy season the downpours of rain can be extremely heavy, but generally only last for an hour or so in the afternoon. The average of humidity is under 90% only, with temperatures averaging around 29º C in Bangkok. This season can be described as unpredictable and not the constant downpours of rain like you would expect. With the high temperature the rain is not exactly cold. If you visit Bangkok during this rainy season, you might want to check any activities in Bangkok information about Bankok Travel and Bangkok Services. So, if you are planning to some island time as part of your trip and vacation you can also check on the directories some Bangkok hotels to get started.

Bangkok, the capital of Thailand is really a magnificent city. Millions of tourist’s horde to this place every year to explore its splendid beauty. If Bangkok is your next vacation destination, then there are certain things you should learn and trust me they would surely help you in making your vacation a memorable one.

Since lot of hotels are often completely booked during the peak season from November to March, it is advisable that visitors go for advance reservations if they are contemplating to visit during this period. Accommodations cost lesser compared to Hong Kong and Singapore and inexpensive by Western standards, specifically because of the degradation of the Thai currency due to the Asian economic crisis of 1997.

The major hotel districts are based around Siam Square and Ploenchit Road; close to the Chao Phraya River, along Silom Road, Suriwong Road and Sukhumvit Road. There are other places such as Banglampoo for modest guesthouses accessed by backpackers, along the river where some modern high-rise hotels are expected to come up; and Chinatown, which is among the most energetic and typically Asian parts of Bangkok.

Around Siam Square, you will discover some very admirable places to live in. You can also find variety of shops, restaurants and nightspots. The less costly places are centered on Soi Kasemann 1 and near Jim Thompson’s House and Museum. These places, such as Bed and Breakfast, provide a guesthouse atmosphere coupled with hotel comfort.

The areas of Chao Phraya River, Silom Road and Suriwong Road enclose some of the older sections of Bangkok. The area around Silom Road and Suriwong Road is recognized as the financial district, and has numerous hotels and restaurants. You can find enough entertainment and shopping options in the Patpong Night Market. You can also find centrally placed top-class hotels suitable for both business and leisure. The luxury establishments, characterizes a distinctly Thai character and boasts an elegant design.

If you travel further towards the west, you will arrive at the riverbank, where some of the outstanding hotels in Bangkok are to be discovered. Hotels here deliver riverfront luxury biased toward tour groups. Most hotels here offer you world-class facilities along with exceptional views from its rooms. There is a handful of other hotels overlooking the Chao Praya River.

Sukhumvit Road is another area popular for shops and nightspots. The area also boasts of some extremely attractive bars. There is good enough presence of mid-range hotels and inns here. But the better four-star and five-star hotels cater more for business travelers than tourists. Even if they lack in character, they more than compensate for that in the facilities they provide.

There are some brand-new hotels oriented toward the business traveler and also possesses most modern fitness centers. There is no shortage for luxurious hotels either on Sukhumvit, while there are also old hotels having their own tradition to show for. People who love modern-sized, unpretentious topnotch accommodation are not disappointed either. Some of the hotels also have rooms affording you nice views of the Bangkok skyline.

No matter wherever you decide to stay in Bangkok, the hospitable people here in the “Land of Smiles” will provide you everything needed to relax and enjoy your time in this fantastic city.
